Q: Is the eGO Cycle 2 road legal and what is it?
A: The eGO Cycle 2 Classic and LX may be registered in any state in the US, but you need to check if your state requires registration or not. In some states the eGO is not considered a motor vehicle; in some states it is a moped. A few state regulations can be found here.
Q: Is the Helio Cycle legal to ride in Europe or the USA?A: The Helio Cycle is designed to meet the Homologated vehicle code in the European Union under the category 'moped'. The Helio model ships with markings that allow registration in the EU. The VIN number will not make any sense to a registry in the US and it will NOT be registerable in the US. If you live in a state where registration is not required you should further know that - the Helio model includes turn signals, headlight, tail / brake light, and reflectors that have 'e' markings - not DOT markings. Even if your state does not require registration - it may require that your eGO have DOT approved lighting and reflectors. Likewise, an eGO LX will not be registrable in Europe.
Q: Can I purchase and use the eGO in Canada?
A: The eGO Cycle is designed to meet the requirements of the 'moped' vehicle category as defined in the US and Europe. Unfortunately Canada does not have a 'moped' vehicle category. This puts the Canadian rider at a disadvantage because the eGO Cycle 2 and the eGO Cycle 2 LX are not certified as a motorcycle (which would require a special operators license, helmets, insurance, etc) or as a Power Assisted Bicycle in Canada. BUT, we are working on a Transport Canada certified version. Please email us if you are interested in being notified when this vehicle becomes available.
Q: What makes an eGO better than a moped?
A: First, unlike a moped, the eGO cycle is electric. It’s quiet, clean, efficient, smart. It’s also much lighter than a moped, so it’s easier to use and easier to transport on the back of a car or RV. It requires far less maintenance than a gas-powered moped as well. It’s also less expensive both to buy and to use. The eGO Cycle will cost less than 1 penny per mile to operate - that's less than 1/5 of the cost of a gas scooter.
Q: What makes an eGO better than a bicycle?
A: You don’t have to pedal! Your eGO is electric! Twist the throttle, and you’re gone. No sweat! We consider it practical, efficient and fun personal transportation for a myriad of errands, commuting, and recreation activities.
Q: Can I ride an eGO Cycle on the sidewalk?
A: The short answer is 'NO'. You might be surprised to discover that in most places its not legal to ride bicycles on sidewalks. Sidewalks are for people who are walking. Both you and pedestrians will be safer if you ride your eGO Cycle on the road. The eGO is designed to travel safely on the road, that's why we added the headlight and brake/tail lights and designed it to travel at traffic speeds. In some communities - you may ride your eGO Cycle in bike lanes and on bike paths. Check your local laws to make sure.
Q: What will I use my eGO for?
A: Most trips are short, a few miles. Too far to walk, so you take your car. But think about it! Do you really need to take two tons of gas-guzzling metal with seats for 6 to the corner store just to pick up a newspaper? Your eGO is perfect for the shorter trips that make up the majority of travel. To the newsstand, to the grocery, to the bank, to the office, to the courts, to the video store, to the library, to the shoe store, to the mall, to the dock, to the edge of town, to the top of the hill, to the bottom of the hill, to the corner, to his house, to her house, to here, to there, to the butcher, to the baker, to the candlestick maker … wherever you go, take your eGO and leave the two tons of gas-guzzling metal in the driveway! We’ll get you there! What’s more, you’ll have fun on the way. We guarantee it!
Q: Can the eGO Cycle be folded for shipping?
A: We ship eGO Cycles anywhere in the world. For shipping we remove the front wheel and fork and the eGO packs into a box 52 inches x 32 inches x 16 inches. It takes about 15 minutes to set up.
Q: Can I ride the eGO on bike paths?
A: It depends. Check your local laws. In some states the eGO is allowed, and in others it's considered a moped and is excluded.
Q: I like to travel. Can I take my eGO with me?
A: We offer some very convenient car racks that will carry up to two eGO Cycles, so bring them along.
Q: What’s with the name eGO?
A: Well, "Id" didn't sound nearly as cool. Besides, the name "eGO" allows us to write seemingly absurd but appropriate sentences in the owner's manual, such as, "Warning: Ride with Care! An uncontrollable eGO can cause severe injury or even death!" But seriously, Freud used the word "ego" to describe the self. We thought, since how we arrive has a great deal to do with how we feel when we get there, what better word for such a wonderful way to arrive than "eGO"? Also, the word is descriptive on a much more concrete level: "e" for electric, "GO" for what happens when you twist the throttle...
Q: Where is the eGO Cycle made?
